The Principles

  1. We are working together guided by God’s Holy Spirit, discovering and using the gifts that He gives. We are reaching out into the local community and the wider world to welcome people into His church.
  2. We believe that Jesus Christ has come to bring help and healing so that we can support one another and be the people that God intends us to be.
  3. We believe that we are called to live in love and peace with everyone, for all people are loved and valued by God. We are committed to honour and share the values that are shown by Jesus. We are campaigning for truth and justice in the world.

At St Mary's…

What We Believe

Our belief and our aims

St Mary’s stands at the heart of the Moseley community, proclaiming the Christian faith.

We believe that all life has been brought into being by God who is loving and purposeful. Our greatest fulfilnent lies in living life the way God intends, and by being in relationship with him.

If we want insight into God’s character and purpose, we find this in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus, born about two thousand years ago, grew up to live a life of goodness, truth and love. The three years of his recorded active ministry in Israel found him giving teaching and telling memorable stories illustrating God’s character. He brought healing and compassion to many, and offered acceptance especially to those that other people avoided or shunned. The authorities of the day eventually arranged his death by execution, nailed to a cross.

On the third day his followers discovered to their amazement that Jesus was alive. They had seen him die, but now they knew he was risen from the dead. This truth we also proclaim. This is the central fact of the Christian faith which makes Jesus Christ unique.

Astonishing though the life of Jesus was, it is his death and resurrection that really makes the difference. It marks Jesus’ triumph over all that tries to destroy human life, and shows us conclusively that death is not the end. It opens up the route to God in a way which had not been known before.

By our baptism, we share in the life of the Church which began after his resurrection. As his followers, we follow the priorities and methods by which Jesus lives, and through him we enjoy a new access to God our Father. We are able to live at one with God, and find him at work within us. This is God’s gift of his Holy Spirit within us and among us, making things new, and holding us together in Christ.

We believe that a new quality of life is possible for all, because of Jesus Christ. We believe that this new life is to be celebrated and shared, and so the church cannot help but tell others about Jesus Christ.

At St Mary’s, we celebrate this faith, and aim to share it with others. Come and see us, or make contact with us if you want to know more.

Our Christian purpose

We have taken the statement of purpose of the Diocese of Birmingham, and applied it to our own work and witness in Moseley.

We, the Church in the parish of St Mary’s,
as part of Christ’s universal people,
seek to respond to the love and generosity of God
and to serve the kingdom by:
