St Anne’s Lych Gate

Review of Year 2008

What has been good? What needs developing?
Worship
  • Worshipping together for the right reasons, i.e. festivals, Patronals, in quieter times. Particular highlights: summer series of alternative worship. Positive feedback of children and young people being involved in worship. In particular the schools’ services have involved more people. Introduction of Wednesday Worship with Moseley C of E School.
  • Café style worship.
  • Worship in other venues, e.g. street, pub etc.
  • Development of a regular sustainable pattern of both traditional and contemporary worship across the benefice (not clones).
  • Increase profile of children and young people and worship that is accessible for them.
  • Continue to experiment with different forms of worship.
Issue that raises concern
  • Care not to overload too much on one day (and this can apply to anything, not just worship).
Discipleship
  • Five people confirmed.
  • Vision Group and Think Tanks.
  • Benefice Prayer Circle formed in April.
  • Ignatian retreat took place in October & November with 28 people from the Benefice.
  • Start Course began in January with 12 people.
  • Would like to see more people exploring their faith and increase of lay leadership.
  • Develop Prayer Calendar for all in the Benefice to use and for people to be prayed for.
  • Benefice Pilgrimage to Venice.
  • Short courses in peoples’ homes that are not clergy dependant.
Evangelism
  • Benefice increasingly involved with local community e.g. Moseley in Bloom (Peace Garden).
  • Mosfest (fête and concerts).
  • Christmas Tree Festival.
  • Carol service in pub.
  • Increased numbers at Social Events by people asking their neighbours.
  • Better communication through posters, B13 etc.
  • Continue to build on these links.
  • Many exciting projects Lovefest, and coming up Moseley Mysteries.
  • Develop Welcome leaflet Issues that raise concern.
  • A misunderstanding from some people that Evangelism means Evangelical in style. Need to have a greater understanding of what Evangelism is and how we can be confident in expressing our faith.
  • Evangelism seems to be very reliant on clergy.
Hospitality & Pastoral Care
  • Good social events, e.g. Curry Nite, Summer Soirée, 1940’s dance, Summer Party at the Vicarage in June.
  • Trips to Liverpool, Chatsworth, Greenbelt & Portsmouth.
  • Continued to strengthen our pastoral teams and identified areas of need, e.g. elderly and bereaved.
  • How are we making our social events part of our mission?
  • Pastoral scheme based on locality and development of Pastoral Contact Scheme.
  • Create Welcome parties for new people.
Issue that raises concern
  • Too often events have relied on clergy picking up the pieces.
