This was the extent of the furnishing in their first home in Good News Theological College, Ghana, when Revd Clifton and Marcie Clarke and their family arrived there in 1997. Since then they have been CMS link mission partners with St Anne’s, have visited us when they have been on leave and sent regular letters. Clifton’s teaching work expanded hugely and he gained a PhD. Marcia developed work amongst the local business women and the children did well at school. The Clarkes have just finished their service with CMS and are living in England. In their last letter they recall the theological college with no doors, windows or electricity. Now there are modern class rooms with computers, of many students have benefited from Clifton’s teaching.
The Clarkes got to know the inhabitants of a mud hut village who expressed their need for a school. The school gradually became a reality. Last year, St Anne’s members learnt of the need for extra classrooms and we liaised with the Clarkes other link parishes. Together we were able to raise enough money and the Clarkes write, “We have built a much needed extension thanks to the support of our link churches and friends. Today the school provides education for children who otherwise would not know the joy of being able to read and write. We have not yet been able to find the support for the next three years for the teachers’ salary and currently we are having to fund it from our own resources, but are not sure how long we can afford to do this. We would really value any financial assistance (being sent via the CMS office).”
