Easter Daffodils

Review of Stations of the Cross Exhibition at St Anne’s

By The Revd Rosemary Donovan

I was greatly encouraged and supported by the response to this Project. Thanks to all the contributors as well as to Craig and Lis who did welcome and hospitality. During the 6 weeks nearly 180 people visited St Anne’s to enjoy not only the challenging pieces of artwork, but also an atmosphere of prayer and discovery. There was a relaxed informal feel as people enjoyed fair-trade drinks and nibbles, and chatted over the deep issues of faith. All of the artists interviewed provided thoughtful insights not only to their work but also to the journey of Christ. The specially designed communion service enabled those present to connect in a deeper way to both the stations and their own journey at this time. Everyone had his or her own particular favourite, or piece that really spoke to them.

Below are some of the comments I have received:

“Its wonderful, really moving”
“I have really appreciated this space during Lent”
“Extremely thought provoking”
“Innovative and challenging”
“There has not been so many people at a mid week communion in ages”
“A brilliant idea”
“I didn’t know what to expect but I am really glad I came”
“The variety of media is amazing”
“Fascinating to see how the artists had used modern images to illustrate an event that happened a long time ago”
