If you were proceeding down the Pershore Road on the evening of Saturday 18 October you may well have heard the sounds of loud hilarity emanating from the Skittle Alley adjacent to the Selly Park Tavern. It was the Family Skittle Evening in full swing with a jolly crew of St. Mary’s folk enjoying the fun. There was a lovely mix of ages from little three year old Jessica to those in their sixties. The place echoed to the sound of scattering skittles, cheers, groans and contented munching. The bring and share supper which accompanied the event provided a wide range of goodies with plenty for all to enjoy seconds (and thirds).
Two knock-out competitions which followed the team rounds were hotly contested. In the first, Andy Livings and Richard Kaye eventually fought each other with great determination until Andy finally won through. Well done both. In the second Amanda Kaye trounced the opposition and was declared a worthy winner. So, the Kayes are the family to beat next time round. Thanks must go especially to Sarah Swainston and Mandy Doyle who spearheaded the organisation of the evening for the benefice on behalf of the Friends of the St Mary’s Choirs and Music. Do keep your ears open for a rematch next year. There have been many calls for a return.
