Review of Moseley After School Service (M*A*S*S)

By The Revd Rosemary Donovan

This term at M*A*S*S has been action packed. The children have been following an Olympic-sporting theme picking up on the qualities needed to be a good athlete and a good Christian. Consequently our title ‘Going for G*O*L*D’ had a double meaning of becoming ‘God’s Own Little Disciples’. We have looked at what constitutes a healthy diet as well as learning about how some people have to walk at least 4 miles to get fresh clean water. We only carried a jug around Moseley Park to realise what a chore this would be.

Nevertheless we also managed to raise £20 for Water Aid. Highlights included learning about perseverance whilst practising our circus skills, and discipline with Karate coach Dave, who had us kicking and punching in true style. We have played cricket, tennis and football as well as making our own medals and holding an awards ceremony.

M*A*S*S continues to grow in numbers and enthusiasm and is a positive way of ‘being church’ for those who find Sunday’s difficult. New children and families are always welcome. Thanks to Elizabeth who faithfully provides refreshments week in week out, and to all the team of volunteers who plan activities and worship.

M*A*S*S children will be sharing in worship with St Anne’s on Sunday 21st December at the Crib service entitled the ‘Xeelsis factor’ where we will all be encouraged to ‘Sing like an Angel’ and the children will receive a special story book about the angel who couldn’t sing.
