It’s easy to forget some of the hard work and organisation that goes on during the year so I thought it wouldn’t hurt to look back over the last twelve months and marvel at the number of fantastic events we’ve enjoyed across the Benefice.
January is often a quiet time as the Clergy get their collective breath back after the Advent celebrations but this didn’t stop our children’s groups enjoying their belated Christmas Party.
February marked the preparation for the Stations of the Cross exhibition where a number of local artists recreated these famous scenes using a variety of media. The exhibition ran through to Easter and saw a number of the artists giving interviews about their work and faith and saw a great many locals taking the time to come to into church – often staying for the short communion service which followed.
March saw our witness once again take to the streets through the dramatic re-telling of the triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. We also gave thanks for the work and ministry of Joan as she retired.
April brought a service of thank-giving for the work of the Wellclose Trust who work so hard for locally disadvantaged.
May was a month for travelling with St Mary’s Singers journeying to Prague and many of us who stayed behind joining in a pilgrimage to Liverpool, the European Capital of Culture.
June’s Murder Mystery evening was a great success as we enjoyed sleuthing over a delicious meal. It was also time for our confirmations. Finally we joined with the Moseley Festival to hold the Moseley Village Garden Party which included the formal opening of the award winning Peace Garden.
July brought the rains, which very nearly put a dampener on the Summer Soiree – but only nearly, although we did have a last minute change of venue.
August was again a time of travel. St Mary’s Robed Choir visited Portsmouth and YG returned to the Greenbelt Christian Arts Festival. Also the St Anne’s Lunch Club outing to Minehead.
September saw us celebrate Mick Perrier’s thirty years as Director of Music at St Mary’s with a service, concert and a surprise party.
October allowed some parents a few days break as YG headed off on their autumn residential. The Saturday night pudding challenge could put you off ice cream for life.
November brought us the Christmas Fair. I’m writing in advance but I’m sure it will have been tremendous.
We have loads to look forward to next year, with the Pilgrimage to Venice, and Moseley Mystery Plays to name but two.
