As part of our Vision document ‘Feeding Moseley with God's guidance, generosity and love’, we said that we wanted to develop our services in a sustainable, attractive and accessible way for all ages, especially children and youth, and support and build on our excellent relationship with Moseley Church of England School and other places of learning.
Moseley After School Service (M*A*S*S) has now been running for over 2 years at St. Anne's and although there is a core of committed volunteers and children attending, those involved in the planning and preparation of M*A*S*S feel that the time is right for development. The Diocesan Children's Ministry workshop day in November gave fresh ideas and an opportunity for us to review what we currently offer. In particular, we have been reflecting on the concepts of Messy Church which is very similar to M*A*S*S but includes families and food, and it is these principles that helped decide the format and activities for the children's workshop as part of the Love Fest.
However, we would like to reach more children and feel it is both practical and theologically sound to move the venue of M*A*S*S to the school where hopefully more children will attend as they don't have to travel or have a time delay. Mrs Ashe (Head teacher), is also keen to open up the school more to the local community and this is a sign of our continuing good relationship with staff and students nurtured through regular assemblies and the monthly Wednesday Worship.
Consequently after half term M*A*S*S will still be held on Thursdays' but at the slightly earlier time of 3:30pm at Moseley C of E School in Oxford Rd. Nevertheless we do not want the children to loose association with the church, a place where they feel they have ownership and a safe space, so the end of each term will also include a special celebration at the church. We also hope to further develop termly Messy Church sessions and perhaps explore holding Holiday Clubs.
The dates and themes for this half term's M*A*S*S are below. We will be journeying with Jesus thinking about the key events of Holy Week and creating two large crosses for display in each church on Good Friday. Why not come and join in?
