Introduction
At St. Mary’s and St. Anne’s, Moseley, we find ourselves in exciting times. We invite you to join us to lead a lively shared ministry team and committed congregations into the next phase of our development.
Our journey towards becoming a united benefice began as a response to a major Diocesan reviewing process entitled “Called to a New Kingdom”. This assessment and review of current mission and ministry coincided with the departure of the last full-time incumbent of St. Anne’s in 2002. Despite the lengthy interregnum it was a fruitful time as our two churches began to work in closer partnership. In December 2004 the then Vicar of St. Mary’s was made Priest-in-Charge of St. Anne’s also, and the Revd. Rosemary Donovan was appointed as Assistant Priest / Youth Worker with particular responsibility for the worship, pastoral care and administration of St. Anne’s.
So far our partnership has resulted in:
- a shared ministry team with joint staff meetings and worship planning;
- joint wardens’ meetings, planning for growth and development across the two parishes
joint committees, e.g. Youth, Steering, and Education & Nurture;
- the appointment by each PCC of a non-voting representative to be a voice on the other PCC;
- joint social events, e.g. Harvest Supper, Friends of Christmas Day Together and Autumn Fair;
- continued joint preparation of candidates for confirmation;
- joint worship for special services such as Ash Wednesday and Confirmation;
- joint services on the fifth Sunday of the month which alternate between the two churches;
- the appointment and licensing of both the Assistant Priest / Youth Worker and our new Curate across the two parishes.
Our new Priest in Charge will:
- have the support of a committed ministry team;
- come to a purpose built 5-bedroom Vicarage with recently landscaped gardens;
- find our two congregations looking forward to an increasingly shared spiritual life
and a rejuvenated community involvement.
