Thought for the week by Trish Everett

Straight to the point

It’s amazing how life trundles along quite nicely, and then suddenly lots of changes appear one after the other: a bit like the number 50 bus really. I’m due to start a new job soon, and while looking forward to new challenges with great excitement and a longing to get started, there will also be many things and people that I shall miss when I leave my present post in a month’s time, not least the comfortable feeling of security you get when you’ve been doing something you know, or have been in an organisation for a while. And I got to thinking that this is what it’s like for us all in the benefice right now. The vision presentations have shown us a challenging new future where there will be changes. Yes, we may look back to what we will leave behind, but it will be exciting to go forward together as we begin to transform our Church and our lives here.

For it is by working together that we will make changes happen, and we all need to be part of it, joining in teams that will achieve the changes we’ve signed up to, because we all have gifts, talents and skills to contribute. I’m sometimes not sure what talents I can bring to this enterprise Does any team want someone who is absolutely brilliant at leaving things to the last minute but still manages somehow to deliver? But one thing is for sure, I’ll give it my best shot. Are we all up for it?

Collect for today: Sunday 21 June 2009, 2nd Sunday of Trinity

Lord, you have taught us that all our doings without love are nothing worth: send your Holy Spirit and pour into our hearts that most excellent gift of love, the true bond of peace and of all virtues, without which whoever lives is counted dead before you. Grant this for your only Son Jesus Christ’s sake, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
