With both Peter and Eric moving on in their faith journeys, we need more people to help with the Care Homes Ministry. Please do speak to any of the Ministry team if you might be interested, and can be available in the week.
I would like to thank the wardens, ministry team and congregation of St Mary’s and St Anne’s for their generosity and kindness towards Anupama, Nathanael, and me last Sunday. I will always treasure the beautiful home communion set which you kindly gave me, an item which I am sure will play an important part in my future pastoral ministry. I will miss you all and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers for what I am sure God will give you: an exciting and blessed future.

Tomorrow the church commemorates Sir Thomas More. He undoubtedly faced what was written by Paul in Corinthians 12:2-10, ‘For the sake of Christ, I am content with weakness, insults, hardships, persecutions and calamities; for when I am weak, then I am strong’. We trust those being ordained today will face nothing so harsh, even though undoubtedly they will encounter difficulties. Some weaknesses can’t be totally overcome. Along with others, I am privileged to go into some of the nursing and care homes in Moseley, to conduct shortened monthly, worship or Communion services for residents and staff. Residents may be frail and dependent, but most have held responsible jobs, raised families and some have fought in wars. Their commitment to their faith, often for their total lifetime, is inspirational. We always feel that we have gained more than we have given to them. In their weakness, they have a different sort of strength.
In Isaiah 40:31 we read, ‘They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.’ Let us remind ourselves of this when times are difficult.
O God, the protector of all who trust in you, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: increase and multiply upon us your mercy; that with you as our ruler and guide we may so pass through things temporal that we lose not our hold on things eternal; grant this, heavenly Father, for our Lord Jesus Christ's sake, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
