Children’s groups meet for the last time today and resume on Sunday 13 September. During the summer when there are no children’s groups, families are welcome to use the family worship zones so that they can take part in the services together. Alternatively for little children the crèche room can be used, but children must be supervised at all times by their parents or guardians. Happy summer holidays to all our children and their leaders and helpers!

Children meet on the 1st 3rd and 4th Sundays during the 10:15 a.m. service. They leave with their leaders after the first hymn. All children are welcome.

St Mary’s and St Anne’s Youth Group

Thanks From Peter

I would like to thank the wardens, ministry team and congregation of St Mary’s and St Anne’s for their generosity and kindness towards Anupama, Nathanael, and me last Sunday. I will always treasure the beautiful home communion set which you kindly gave me, an item which I am sure will play an important part in my future pastoral ministry. I will miss you all and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers for what I am sure God will give you: an exciting and blessed future. Thought For the Week by Christine Hirsch

Straight to the point We went to a gig at the O2 Academy last week to see The Cat Empire, an Australian band. Their music is described as ‘a fusion of jazz, ska, rock and soul with latin influences’, but interestingly we had been introduced to the band’s music by our daughter a couple of years ago. It’s quite a while since I’ve been to a gig, certainly at a venue like the Academy, and despite taking advice from the younger members of the household on dress code, I was still a little apprehensive. However all fears were allayed; although not the youngest, we were certainly not the oldest in the crowd. The music was fabulously invigorating and everyone danced and sang along with band for the whole set, plus encores. The words ‘Music is the language of us all’ forms the chorus line of one of the songs, and seemed to gain in significance as the week progressed. A few evenings later we experienced a beautiful and haunting melody. A Muslim wedding ceremony took place under canvas in a neighbour’s garden and we drifted off to sleep to the sound of the sung prayers floating out across the green leafy suburbs of Moseley in the summer dusk. The congregation at the 10 o’clock service last Sunday were treated to a ring of hand bells in church to mark the start of the bell appeal for St Mary’s church, a sound that will send out a message and touch all in the Moseley area, whatever their background or native tongue. Music conveys and evokes a myriad of feelings and memories and stories to tell, but the language needs no translation. To me, this week, music has reflected the message of hope, oneness and joining together expressed in today’s reading from Paul’s letter to the Ephesians.

Collect for today: Sunday 19 July 2009, 6th Sunday of Trinity

Merciful God, you have prepared for those who love you such good things as pass our understanding: pour into our hearts such love toward you that we, loving you in all things and above all things, may obtain your promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
