Happy summer holidays to all our children and their leaders and helpers!

Another summer has been and gone with the Moseley mystery plays, choir trip to Ripon and the St Mary’s bell launch. As the holidays draw to a close and autumn dawns, it’s an appropriate time for us to update you on what’s been recently happening and tell you of some exciting events that lie ahead.

At St Mary’s, we will be holding our Patronal Festival for the Feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We are welcoming Canon Chris Chivers, 41 from Blackburn Cathedral to preach on our Lady. At the time of writing he is currently in Harare at this crucial time as the new Bishop is enthroned. Chris is also involved and has written extensively on interfaith dialogue and we look forward to hearing his word for us. I hope as many of you will be able to celebrate and hear Chris’s words for this service. At the service we will be also welcoming members and users of the Kinmos community whom we support and who are celebrating the 30th anniversary birthday that weekend. The Choirs will be joining together to sing part of one of Haydn’s Masses and the whole celebration concludes with a champagne reception. Please note there will be no service at St Anne’s that morning.
10:00 a.m. Children’s Groups
Children’s Groups begin again on Sunday 6 September at St Mary’s. In the Autumn the Children’s subcommittee will be reviewing the use of the Family Zones as part of a hopeful preparation to apply for a faculty (church planning application) for these to be permanent. If you have any comments on these, please pass them to Debbie Barwell via the Benefice Office or see any member of the Children’s Sub-committee.
Tue-8-Sep   As we come to the end of the series God and Creation, if you haven’t yet seen the exhibition Every Child Matters to God, which is up in St Mary’s, please come and look at the 30 pictures on the pillars which will be displayed in Church until Tuesday 8 September.
7:30 p.m. Prayer Circle
Hansa Shah will talk about the Palestine/Israel ecumenical accompaniment programme which is part of the world council of churches project and the part she will be playing when she goes out in October. Time will also be spent praying for this work and for Lis Sparrow starting her training.
Sun-13-Sep All services Worship Sunday
Every Sunday is time for worship at both churches, but as part of the five year plan for the Benefice, a new worship pattern to allow growth as well as take into account the reduced level of staffing (since Eric’s retirement and Peter leaving us at the end of June). On Sunday 13 September at all services at both churches there will be presentations of proposed plans which will begin in Advent this year. In October there will be opportunities to reflect on the proposals with members of the Renewing Worship Team. Please make a note of this in your diaries now.

Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray and to give more than either we desire or deserve: pour down upon us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid and giving us those good things which we are not worthy to ask but through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
