There are 8 years and approx 500 pupils, however pupils don’t necessarily start at 5 and finish at 13 it depends on what age they started and how quickly they progress. Consequently a small gender neutral wrapped gift would be gratefully received. Please place contributions in the back of either church by the 15th November. For further info please see flyer.
Thanks RosemaryThere will be a warehouse in Kings Norton for checking shoe boxes. Help is requested on Mondays and Tuesdays in November beginning on Monday 9 November. Further details from Mike Newbold Tel 443 3037
From Sunday 1 November until the end of Epiphany, St Mary’s Church is beginning a ‘kaleidoscope’ project both following and portraying the Church’s liturgical journey in colour from All Saints to Candlemas. To mark the stages on the journey, each bay in the Church is going to be hung with symbols and colours made by our Children’s Groups. Today Angels appear to mark All Saints. Watch and wait for further signs to come. Generations have learnt from the symbolism and our pilgrimage will provide us figures and signs to reflect on. Come with us over the next two months to find Christ being with us on our journey to Bethlehem this year and beyond.

Life seems to have taught me that, with sufficient humility, we have more to learn from those who are prepared to tell us we’re wrong than from those who tell us we’re right. The latter only confirms us in our present mindset but the former challenges us to look at things from a different perspective. Even if we eventually decide our original stance was accurate, we have viewed the situation from another angle, shared another’s perspective and have grown internally through the doing. We have a broader viewpoint to carry us forward. However, if we persist only in listening to those who tell us we’re right we eventually become like the King with no clothes, and those who remember Hans Christian Andersen’s cautionary tale will know the consequences of that. In today’s story from Mark, blind Bartimaeus, despite his affliction, could see clearly both his own state and the remedy. His physical blindness was no barrier to recognising in Jesus one who could cure him, put him right and restore him to being a fully functioning member of society.
In his letter to the Hebrews, St Paul reminds us that the former priesthood of the Law was subject to human frailty but the priesthood of the Son of Man was one of perfection. As we seek to develop the priesthood of all God’s people in this place, let us all be prepared to listen to those who don’t share our viewpoint and to have the humility to follow the perfect priesthood of the Son.
Blessed Lord, who caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning: help us so to hear them, to read, mark, learn and inwardly digest them that, through patience, and the comfort of your holy word we may embrace and for ever hold fast the hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
