Sunday 18 June: 1st Sunday after Trinity

Intercessions

Flowers in the welcome pedestal at St Mary’s are given in memory of Sybil Guest.

We remember those with birthdays this week, especially Chloë Leadbetter (18th), Kevin Macliver and Shirley Smith (19th), Anna Stumper (21st), and Claire Wadelin and Claire Johnson (24th). Our apologies and belated good wishes to Eric Dwyer for his birthday on 11 June.

The church is open every morning between 10:00 a.m. and 12 noon, but to enable us to keep the church open in this way, we need more people to offer an hour one morning a week to be available in church. If you can help, please have a word with Jonathan Hodgson.

Gift Aid: If you are a taxpayer, please maximise your giving in the Offertory Plate by using the Gift Aid envelopes provided.

St Mary’s notices can be sent to the Parish Office at (info@stmarysmoseley.co.uk), or by phone: 0121 449 2243 (mornings) by 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Voicemail messages can be left at any time. Also see http://www.stmarysmoseley.co.uk.

St Anne's & St Mary's Garden Party

Saturday 22nd July

Moseley in Bloom

Thanks to the Youth Group who worked very hard in the churchyard on Wednesday; a good start has been made in tidying up. Now we need lots of help to continue their good work. Could you spare an hour or two to help especially on a Saturday morning? Everyone welcome; please bring gloves and tools if possible.

Straight to the point
Straight to the point

Mark 4: 26-34

One of the great issues of recent years has been the possibility of going back to the organic methods of our farming ancestors. Not only are the results healthy for body and mind, but they mark a spiritual achievement in a wasteful world which disgorges millions of products we do not need at appalling cost to our bank accounts, our environment, and at its worst to our souls.

It is the vital organic power that Jesus speaks of here, spiritual power, the reaching into a boundless dimension and needing only a ‘mustard seed of faith’ to open it up. Its riches, its prodigality and its amazing possibilities are open to all at any time. The Father’s hands pour it all forth without ceasing.

Sadly today, so much is lost to our world by prayers left unsaid, because our trivial generation confuses power with any surge of gratification, from any source—fearing to touch anything grander, more truly awesome. Energies wasted on nothing, when one thought addressed to God in simple trust might unleash unimaginable blessings. That’s the real poverty we live in today.

Collect for today: Trinity 1

O God, the strength of all those who put their trust in you, mercifully accept our prayers and, because through the weakness of our mortal nature we can do no good thing without you, grant us the help of your grace, that in the keeping of your commandments we may please you both in will and deed; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
