The church is open every morning between 10:00 a.m. and 12 noon, but to enable us to keep the church open in this way, we need more people to offer an hour one morning a week to be available in church. If you can help, please have a word with Jonathan Hodgson.

Thanks also to members of the Youth Group for the beautiful pots of plants which have appeared outside St Mary’s.

Pam Laslett writes:

Straight to the point
Straight to the point

The story of Jesus healing Jairus’s daughter is such a moving one, there are few tragedies so great as seeing your only daughter die, and we can sympathise with Jairus as we picture Jesus tenderly raising the little girl from the bed and then telling her carers to give her some food.

It is also an important one for several other reasons. Firstly, as in all healing miracles, Jesus demonstrates God’s power of healing, in which he has such confidence and wisdom. Without God’s healing power, the wonders of modern medicine are in vain though they can and do assist. Secondly, the story shows us how the leader of the synagogue, where we know Jesus was regarded with some suspicion, nevertheless had heard of his ministry, in his distress put aside his misgivings and decided to put his trust in Him. Thirdly Jesus did not wish to upset the religion in which he had been brought up, and so commanded his followers to keep the story secret.

So the story has these three important messages for us.

Collect for today: Trinity 3

Almighty God, you have broken the tyranny of sin and have sent the Spirit of your Son into our hearts whereby we call you Father: give us grace to dedicate our freedom to your service, that we and all creation may be brought to the glorious liberty of the children of God: through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
