As usual the Diocese requires members of the congregation to complete an anonymous income form. It is important that EVERYONE who is 16 or over responds, as the average income is used in calculating how much we have to pay to the Diocesan Common Fund. This year there is also an age and gender survey to be filled in by everyone. You just have to tick boxes. Thank you for your cooperation.

Rest — an ordinary everyday word all of us know. I have just taken part in a double move, two households to the same house on the same day, not an experience to be recommended. Rest is mentioned several times in Hebrews 4, and I think, “yes please”. But it occurs to me there is more to the meaning of this word than just relaxation; perhaps, peace and security? The Bible has undergone many translations, is this possibly a case of mistranslation? Christ was very clear on the subject of the Sabbath. According to the law it should be a day of rest. His interpretation is that this does not mean not to help those in need.
The reading from Mark 10 is in essence about the evil of materialism, of rating things that are on the earth as more worthy than those that are above, important though they may be in everyday life.
For me the most important statement is in verse 27, For God all things are possible. I know this to be true in the sense that one cannot know anything that is not true. Instead of For I would like to put With. That with God all things are possible is obvious. For people who have faith that surely means also that with His help all things are possible.
Collect for Today: Almighty and everlasting God, increase in us your gift of faith that, forsaking what lies behind and reaching out to that which is before, we may run the way of your commandments and win the crown of everlasting joy; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
