We remember those with birthdays this week, especially Madeleine Chapman and Annie Matthews (25th), Matthew Harrison (26th), Doreen Redfearn (28th), Jennifer Johnson (30th), Trish Everett, Pam Rhodes and Noah Tobias Samuel (31st).
The church is open every morning between 10:00 a.m. and 12 noon, but to enable us to keep the church open in this way, we need more people to offer an hour one morning a week to be available in church. If you can help, please have a word with Jonathan Hodgson.

As we journey through Lent, on Passion Sunday we mark a change in our pilgrimage heading towards Good Friday. To express this in St Mary’s the hangings from behind the high altar have been removed to signify the desolation of our Lord as he prepared to be stripped for the Cross. (During this time, the curtains will be cleaned and prepared for Easter).
During Lent we are again asked as a Parish to donate to the Church Urban Fund. Contributions may be gift-aided using the Challenging Poverty envelopes. Please hand them in at the back of the church today or on Palm Sunday. Thank you for your help.
Please pick up a flyer with details of all Holy Week services.

John 12:1-8 tells the story of Mary pouring perfume over Jesus’ feet, causing the disciples to complain about the apparent waste saying that the money spent on the perfume would have been better spent on the poor. At what appears at first glance to be a moment of selfishness Jesus tells them to leave her alone, that he won’t be around forever but the poor will.
The message behind this seemingly inappropriate comment is surprisingly reasonable. There’s no point spending your life scrimping, saving and going out of your way attempting to achieve the unachievable; one is far better off enjoying the things God has blessed them with while they still have them.
Who is the more ‘Christian’? The man who leaves his friends, wife and children to travel out into a third world country to spend everyday trying to cure incurable diseases or the man who stays living with his family bringing about joy and security in their lives? This brief extract is simply saying don’t leave things till it’s too late, make the people close to you happy today, as opposed to waiting on the unreachable people of tomorrow.
Merciful Lord, absolve your people from their offences, that through your bountiful goodness we may all be delivered from the chains of those sins which by our frailty we have committed; grant this, heavenly Father, for Jesus Christ’s sake, our blessed Lord and Saviour, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
