Prayer and Reflection

The parish prays and give thanks

Our thoughts & prayers are asked for Shirley Smith and Birdie Hutchinson.

For those who are being baptised, Erin Midgley Smith and Bob Biddle.

We pray for the family and friends of Harry Sutton and Murial Currie; comfort them in their bereavement.

We celebrate the birthdays of Robert Brown (22nd), Elinor Newcombe and Joanne Simons (23rd), Joshua Parry, Vincent Okafor and Margaret Findlay (24th), Lois Dunning (25th), Samuel Barber (26th) and Rachel Simons (27th).

The church is open every morning between 10:00 a.m. and 12 noon, but to enable us to keep the church open in this way, we need more people to offer an hour one morning a week to be available in church. If you can help, please have a word with Jonathan Hodgson.

Homily by Charles Wall

Straight to the point
Straight to the point

Today the Wall family celebrate Jamie’s 16th birthday. Where have those years gone? Those sixteen years have seen Jamie’s increasing involvement in the life of St. Mary’s and today’s first reading couldn’t be more apposite. If Jamie and the rest of us take Paul’s Letter to Timothy to heart, is there any better way of leading our lives?

In the busy world we live in, it is all too easy to forget God’s word and to only listen to the message we want to hear and follow our own desires. Paul’s message is to remember what we have been taught, remain steadfast and remind ourselves of the need to lead true and worthy lives through the example of Jesus.

As Jamie continues in his journey through life, I hope he will find his time at St Mary’s has helped him to become “fully qualified and equipped to do every food deed”.

Amen
