Appointment of new Head at Moseley C of E School

The Governing Body of the School are delighted to announce the appointment of Mrs Ros Ashe to be the new head of Moseley C of E School. This was a unanimous decision after interviews on Tuesday — Congratulations! Mrs Ashe is currently the deputy of the School and is well known to many. She takes up the appointment in September — please pray for her and also for Dr Julia Burton as she continues as Head at the School until her retirement in July.

St Mary’s Clock & St Anne’s Bells

Work has now begun on the clock and will continue throughout April into May. The bells are being installed in the next few days. Listen out for the striking and ringing soon!

Ghana, Christian Aid, USPG

Good News — our Lent Appeal for Ghana raised over £1,100. This exceeded the amount which we hoped to reach and will mean that St Mark’s Church in Dzonati will be able to complete their work. Bishop Matthias says,

“Thank you all so much for your generosity this will mean we will be able to finish the ninth Church in the Diocese and provide an out-station for 200 more Christians. I hope to see you when I come to England in June and July. With our love and prayers from all in the Ho Diocese.”

Thanks…

… to all who have helped in preparing and serving in Tuesday’s Stations of the Cross and Wednesday’s Christian Aid Lunches. It has been greatly appreciated and we have raised £200 as well as our profile in welcoming and helping others. Next Saturday is Curry and Pizza evening at the Parish Hall in Park Hill, please do come and have fun.

Thanks also to those who have helped with our worship liturgy and decorations over the Easter period.

Can anyone help?

A young man in work is looking for accommodation in or near Kings Heath High Street, if you can help please ring Elizabeth Way (449 1727).

Thought for the week by Mick Perrier

Straight to the point

Acts 2:14a, 22-32; John 20:19-end

Today’s readings seem odd. Why, when we have only just celebrated the Resurrection, do we first jump forward to the time of Pentecost and then back in the Gospel to the post-crucifixion group of disciples gathered in the upper room? I enjoy films, or episodes of detective series, where time-shift scenes occur; where we are transported between the after and the before, and then — only gradually — we are helped to make the links between them.

This is what we are challenged to do today. We see the confident disciples speaking out to all Jerusalem and then see them before — uncertain, timorous, grieving for their crucified Lord. We make the connection, we see what achieved the transformation — the newly resurrected Christ and the workings of the Spirit he bequeathed. The reality dawns that God can achieve the same for us through the same means — belief in the Risen Son and the influence of the Holy Spirit. Truly blessed are we who have not seen but yet have believed.

Collect for today: Sunday 30 March 2008, 2nd Sunday of Easter

Almighty Father, you have given your only Son to die for our sins and to rise again for our justification: grant us so to put away the leaven of malice and wickedness that we may always serve you in pureness of living and truth; through the merits of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, In the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
