Families with young children can try out both zones during church and school services in the coming months and then comment on their experiences. We welcome the views of the wider congregation too and comment cards are available in eac of the trial zones for everyone to use. The trial zones will be sparsely equipped and furnished to give a flavour of hr a permanent zone could look. The Sub-Committee will report back to PCC at the end of the trial period with a recommendation based on its findings.

Thought for the week by Jennifer Holloway

Straight to the point

The main school holidays are fast approaching, with children in delicious anticipation of fun and freedom, and for those who drive to work, anticipation of fewer traffic hold-ups. Today’s appointed readings give us a timely reminder that holidays aren’t an excuse for putting our Christian beliefs on hold or on the back burner. Rather, we can use the time to grow in our faith. “Those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit” (Romans 8 v 5). In the parable of the sower (Matthew 13), seeds falling on good soil yield a good crop. This means that “he who hears the word and understands it bears fruit and yields from it” (v23). We don’t want to be like those who embrace the word enthusiastically initially, and then fall by the wayside when other things intervene. Holidays are surely there for enjoyment, rest and relaxation. They can also give us more time to reflect on our Christian values, put them into practice and marvel in our creator God.

Collect for today: Sunday 13 July 2008, 8th Sunday of Trinity

Almighty Lord and everlasting God, we beseech you to direct, sanctify and govern both our hearts and bodies in the ways of your laws and the works of your commandments; that through your most mighty protection, both here and ever, we may be preserved in body and soul; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
